The Dream

2 Fast 2 Furious was first contact with the Skyline GTR for me. After seeing it on the big screen I wanted one. Then Need for Speed Underground 2 and then Initial D cemented the GTR as my favourite car and dream car.

First contact

It all started in a 2005 high school library, the month "Spy shot" section of the monthly issue of WHEELS Magazine.

There emerged these spy shots with the headings like "Skyline GTR R35 test mule". The Skyline GTR being my favourite car this was exciting news.
As a GTR fan evidence of a new Skyline GTR was cause for elation. Following this I followed any media I could get my hands for any updates on this new generation Skyline GTR.

The appetiser

After some months of no info came the Nissan GTR Proto 2005 (October). This was when Nissan announced that they would be devorcing the GTR name from the Skyline model line, developing it as a separate model.
Upon revealing of this concept Nissan also announced the date when they would reveal at the Tokyo Motor Show 2007.

Back in time

These images left a mark to say the least and also made me revisit the the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show GTR Concept which I had first come across on Gran Turismo 4.

The other rumour was the new car was going to be an automatic.

Coming to light

Following this came scoop photos on the internet of a close to production test car started to be seen testing at the Nurburgring, Germany.
Finally coming to light a Pre-production test car clad in camouflage inside and out. Video footage online showing a new level of speed for a production car.
The first look at the interior once again confirmed the new GTR would be an automatic. Despite being against it, it was still a GTR in the end. Apart from that the new GTRs interior did look like an evolution of the much loved BNR34 Skyline GTR.

At this point I was already in love with this new R35 GTR.

Then the public reveal on the 26th October @ the Tokyo Motor Show.

The dream car...
