Tsukuba Circuit

Last month on my visit to Best-R for some regular maintenance Konishi-san revealed that they would be entering in the "March Cup" grass roots series. A one make series for Nissan Marches (Micras in other markets). The main regulations is the cars must be street legal.

This year the series events will be all held at Tsukuba Circuit. Having never been to a grass roots motorsport event or Tsukuba Circuit for that matter. I had to tag along.

Upon arrival it was a surreal. Like my first visit to Fuji Speedway it was another Gran Turismo moment. Perhaps even more so.

Along with the March Cup there were a number of other race series on including the Roaster (MX-5) Party Race, Z Car Challenge, Toyota Startlet and AE86 one make series a minature prototype one make series and a open wheeler one make.

The tunnel under the main straight from the carpark to A Paddock (main pit) area is magical. You can feel and hear the echoes of drivers who began their careers here.

Prepare for the unexpected when you visit Tsukuba. A full track setup R31 Skyline! It is nice to see these cars are not forgotten.

Then there is the main carpark. Pure Gran Turismo land.

Plenty of Skylines too.

Mako was here too. Parked next to a EK9 track car.

No posers here.

B Paddock is where the Nissan cars were based. The March/Note Cup and the Z Car Challenge entrants. B Paddock is just by Dunlop corner.

Both Nissan Prince Tokyo and Omori Factory were here supporting their customer entrants along with individual entrants.
