LED tail light update.

After over a year hiatus I felt inspired to restart posts and a return back to Blogger from Wordpress after running out of storage on the later.
Alot has happened since my last post so I’ll start with slow with the motivation to come back here.

Long time readers will remember the fitting of Philips X-treme Ultinon S25 Reds as first seen in Aki's blog.

The flaw in these units design for when used in Skylines is the verticle shadows created by the cooling heat sink fins.

Followers of the instagram account will have seen I recently purchased a DSLR (used) to play with. Playing around with some dawn and night shooting reminded me about the verticle shadowss and to revisit the LED tail lights.

Four years have passed since I installed the Philips. So I was curious to see what solutions are out there.

Amazon to this day is still a good reference and primary source for procuring goods. Found these PolarG S25 Reds.

So being the nerd I am I looked up who makes these. Turns out they are made here in Japan by Nissei Kogyo. They are the company also responsible for Koito bulbs, OEM supplier for Nissan.

It is nice to have tail bulbs which are made in Japan again!

Most importantly these PolarGs seem to solve the shadow of the Philips as they have diodes mounted on a great many more sides then the 2 on the Philips.

In addition unlike the Philips which utilised a variable voltage on the diodes to produce lights and brake light mode. The PolarGs have dedicated LEDs for each mode.

After

As a bonus there is also more red in the light too! The previous Philips unit has a blob of resin? with some red dye in it over the diode where as the Nissei one seems to produce red light in a different way.

Now I can sleep little easier again ^^
