Some more 400R inspiration

Look at those beautiful welds!

As you all know rigidity has been a ongoing pursuit of mine, from the boot (trunk) brace, underfloor Nismo bracing, window sealant, BNR34 rear strut plates and the BNR34 front strut tower brace to replace the stock BCNR33 one.

One (perhaps) final rigidity piece which I had been itching to try was a the Nismo titanium strut tower brace (part No. 54420-RSR42). This part fits both BCNR33s and BNR34s.

So this was the new brace we saw at Nismo Festival 2 seasons ago. Each piece is hand made and finished here in Japan. A design inspired from the strut brace of the Nismo 400R with updates in rigidity.

BNR34 stock vs new Nismo strut brace.

The original 400Rs brace was an improvement over the standard BCNR33s brace in that it incorporated two standard diameter bars in titanium to spread the load by offering a bar for each of the bolt points helping to greatly reduce the body flexing about underneath the brace end plates with the added bonus of greater stiffness and lightness offered by titanium.

The new brace with a design inspired by the 400Rs brace has made some visible improvements as can be seen in the picture above by the thicker bars. Each of which are now the same thickness as the BNR34 standard brace bar.

strut top protectors were also another thing I have been itching to get to prevent further damage of the strut tops, a buffer material between the strut brace and the body.

I was originally planning to head over to Omori Factory to get some but due to quarantine and them being closed to the public I sourced from Garage Yoshida instead. Well known as perhaps the leaders in ground up restorations of Skyline GTRs, they are to GTRs what Singer is to Porsches.

With abit of silicon spray on either side of the protectors to stop them from getting stuck to the body the brace bolted up no problems.

Really does set off and tie in the other elements of the engine bay really nicely. Now with two 400R inspired parts.

So how does she drive now?

With more confidence.

I was expecting not to feel much difference as my car has the already a number of modifications which have already made significant improvements to the rigidity.

However there was a marked improvement in steering feel giving me greater confidence om corner entry as well as overall a further reduction in scuttle shake.

The Toyota Mega Cruiser (Yes that is it's actually name). Japan's Humvee. Like the Humvee there was also a civilian version which was released. Rarer than most supercars.

The changes were especially felt on the wangan.

It was lovely to get back into the sunlight. The turnout at Tatsumi was not too shabby too.

A number of BNR34s, including 2 Nurs.

This Vspec II BNR34 particularly caught my attention. The factory rear fender decals in monochrome was a surprisingly fitting touch.

The F40 LM made a brief appearance.

The new errected screen has ruined the Tatsumi skyline

The world is slowly returning to partial normality. But we still need to stay cautious. Stay safe everyone!
